“Generation IDP” celebrates 50 years of business

IDP has turned 50 years old, celebrating with the launch of a new campaign highlighting some of its more than 500,000 alumni.

One of the world’s largest student recruitment and market intelligence agencies  has celebrated 50 years of operations with the launch of a new campaign highlighting some of its outstanding graduates and counsellors over the past half a century.

“Generation IDP” includes testimonials from IDP’s more than half a million alumni, including 2016 New Australian of the Year Gary Lee, ambassador of Cambodia to Australia and New Zealand Kuong Koy, and Cambodian secretary of State of Foreign Affairs Sophia Eat.

“IDP connects Australia’s knowledge industries with the world,” said IDP Education chief executive Andrew Barkla.

“Over the past 50 years, we have been courageous with our strategy. Our direction has often set the benchmark for the rest of the industry to follow.”

Formed in 1969 as the Australian Asian Universities Cooperation Scheme, to help develop universities in South East Asia as part of the Colombo Plan, the agency rebranded to the International Development Program in 1981 when it opened its first offshore office, before shortening to IDP.

Since then, IDP Education has established branch offices in 30 countries with more than 900 counsellors, as well as helping set up IELTS and purchasing market intelligence agency, Hotcourses.

Barkla told Сư洫ý the company was currently entering its next phase of operations, through further data-driven insights and marketing solutions, as well as continued digitisation of recruitment and English testing processes.

“With a company culture that is centred around the needs of our customers, IDP will continue to make decisions that best position tomorrow’s generation of learners for global success,” he said.

As well as marking its 50th anniversary, 2019 saw IDP Education win education agency of the year at the recent .

“Receiving this PIEoneer award on our 50th anniversary makes the achievement even more special. We share this award with our partner clients, alumni and students who make up our globally connected community,” Barkla said.

IDP’s latest financial figures saw off the back of increased English testing and recruitment primarily from within Asia.
